What kind of stairs to choose for the summer house?

Wooden stairs are perfect not only for single-family homes, but also for tourist facilities such as seasonal holiday cottages. What should you pay attention to when choosing specific stairs for such a building? How to ensure the comfort and safety of summer visitors? Here are our tips.
Stairs to the summer house – first of all, safety
If you own a holiday cottage and rent it out to tourists for the duration of their vacation, you must first and foremost ensure their safety. The stairs can be used by children and the elderly, as well as – needless to say – partygoers who, while having a good time, may be a bit less careful and therefore more susceptible to, for example, tripping.
Safe stairs to a summer house are those that:
- are appropriately dimensioned (the optimal step height is approximately 18-19 cm, and its depth should not be less than 24-25 cm);
- they have a balustrade, and the distance between the balusters prevents a child from passing through them;
- are lit after dark (e.g. with LED lights with a motion sensor);
- are regularly checked for technical condition.
Other criteria that you should consider when choosing stairs for your summer house are:
- durability and strength ‒ the stairs should not be afraid of intensive use by vacationers;
- comfort ‒ the dimensions of the stairs should make it easy to move around them;
- location ‒ in a place that is easily accessible and at the same time where they will not bother;
- aesthetics ‒ it’s good if the stairs match the style of the holiday home. In the case of classic holiday cottages, wood is often the dominant material, so wooden stairs seem like a natural choice.
