Wooden stairs are not only a functional interior element, but also a decoration for any home. To maintain their beauty and durability for years, it is important to care for them regularly and properly. We will try to give you some tips on how to properly care for wooden stairs to maintain their appearance and durability.
1. Regular cleaning
We dust furniture and wash floors every day, but what about the stairs? Regular cleaning is crucial to keep them in good condition. We recommend removing dust, dirt and other contaminants with a soft brush or damp cloth. Avoid aggressive chemicals that can damage the wood and varnish/oil surface!
Use only products intended for cleaning wood.
You can use a vacuum cleaner, but remember to use a tip with soft bristles to avoid scratching the wood surface.
2. Moisture protection:
Water and wooden stairs are not a good combination. The spruce wood from which we make the stairs absorbs water very well, which may cause it to swell and become damaged. Avoid leaks and do not leave wet items on stairs. If water has spilled on the stairs, do not panic, just try to remove it as quickly as possible using highly absorbent microfiber cloths.
Also remember to ventilate and air the room where the stairs are located. There is a lot of moisture and dust in the ambient air, which has a significant impact on stairs, among other things. Apart from the health aspect, wood absorbs moisture from the air just as it does directly from water.
IMPORTANT – Too much humidity can cause stairs to creak!

3. Stain removal
If stains appear on the stairs, it is important to react quickly. Wipe the stains gently with a damp cloth, and if that is not enough, you can use gentle detergents designed for wood. However, remember to always test the product on an inconspicuous part of the stairs before using it on the entire surface.
4. Scratch prevention
Spruce wood is a relatively soft species of wood. This makes stairs made of it susceptible to scratches, especially in high-traffic areas.
The first thing is to protect the wood structure with varnish or oil intended for stairs, floors or parquets. This will create a hard coating that will protect the material from damage.
Our stairs are intended for indoor use. We recommend not walking on them in the shoes you wear outside the home. The sole may contain stones, sand or other elements that can cause irreversible damage in the form of deep scratches and dirt.
For people who value exceptional care, we suggest using tread covers.
5. Maintenance and assessment of technical condition
Years pass and the stairs lose their original shine? Often, with little effort, you can enjoy them and their appearance for as long as possible!
First of all, as we suggested in point no. 1, use products intended for wood for daily care.
Depending on the type of finish (varnish, oil, wax) and how they were cleaned, abrasions, chips, etc. may appear. After some time, the most intensively used parts of the stairs, i.e. the steps and the handrail, may require refreshing in the form of re-varnishing or oiling. This is normal and natural. Periodically renewing the wood's protective layer will help maintain its perfect appearance for many years to come.
Also remember to check the wood for insects!
